Vietnamese Woman Arrested in $300 Million Crypto Scam Case

A 30-year-old Vietnamese woman named Ngo Thi Theu has been arrested in Thailand for her alleged role in a massive cryptocurrency scam that tricked 2,600 people out of $300 million, according to a report by Asia News Network.

Theu was wanted internationally, and an Interpol red notice had been issued to help track her down. Thai police arrested her last Friday at a hotel in Bangkok, with help from the Crime Suppression Division.

According to reports, Theu played a major role in a large scam operation that involved 35 officials and over 1,000 workers. The network operated 44 call centres across Vietnam. Victims were reportedly lured into investing in crypto and foreign exchange platforms with promises of monthly profits ranging from 20% to 30%.

Vietnam has become a hotspot for cryptocurrency investments. About 21.2% of the country’s 100 million people have invested in crypto, making them a target for scams like this one.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the wider network behind the scam.
