Nucor, the largest steel manufacturer and recycler in North America, first reported the cybersecurity incident in mid-May. The company said hackers gained unauthorized access to its IT systems, which forced it to temporarily shut down some of its operations.
In a new update filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Friday, Nucor said that the attackers were able to steal “limited data” from its systems. The company is now reviewing the stolen information and will notify anyone affected, along with the proper regulatory agencies, if required by law.
According to Nucor, the affected systems have now been restored, and the company believes the hackers no longer have access to its network. It also said that the cyberattack is not expected to have a major impact on its finances or business operations.
Although the details of the attack suggest it may have involved ransomware, no hacker group has come forward to claim responsibility.
Nucor said it has taken steps to improve its cybersecurity and prevent similar incidents in the future.
