Kettering Health Hit by Cyberattack, Cancels Procedures Across Western Ohio

Kettering Health is dealing with a major cyberattack that forced it to cancel all elective medical procedures on May 20, 2025. The attack caused a system-wide technology outage, affecting hospitals and clinics across western Ohio.

The health system, which runs 14 medical centers and over 120 outpatient facilities, reported the outage began early on May 20. It disrupted access to key patient care systems and also shut down the organization’s call center.

Due to the outage, Kettering Health cancelled all scheduled inpatient and outpatient procedures for the day. However, emergency rooms and clinics stayed open to care for patients needing urgent treatment.

Later that day, Kettering Health confirmed the outage was caused by a cyberattack involving unauthorized access to its network.

"We have taken steps to contain and investigate the issue," the organization said in a public statement. "We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to share updates."

Alongside the outage, Kettering Health also warned of scam calls. Some patients received phone calls from people pretending to be Kettering Health staff, asking for payments related to medical bills.

The organization made it clear that, for now, they will not ask for payments over the phone. They urged anyone who receives a suspicious call to report it to local police.

Kettering Health is still investigating the cyberattack and working to restore its systems safely.
