On May 14, Arc System Works officially responded to the reports with a statement on its website. The company confirmed that there was indeed a data breach but assured users that, as of May 12, no personal information or player accounts were affected.
The developer is now working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the breach and determine exactly what data was stolen. It also warned fans not to open or download the leaked content, as it may contain harmful malware. However, Arc System Works did not discuss the specific details of the leaked data.
According to Dexerto, the leak included a build of Guilty Gear Strive that revealed all remaining characters for Season 4, brand-new moves, and even the full character lineup for Season 5.
Nintendo-focused site Nintendo Everything also reported that the leak exposed details about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The new console will reportedly support three game formats:
• Digital downloads only
• A new “Game Key-Card” format
• A 64 GB physical cartridge with the full game
The Game Key-Card, codenamed “Potion,” is a mix of digital and physical. It comes in a physical box but requires a download to actually play the game. This hybrid format is said to be popular among third-party developers planning releases for the Switch 2.
However, this has raised concerns for video game preservationists. Since two of the three formats rely on downloading, it may become difficult to play these games once the console reaches the end of its life.
The full impact of the hack is still unknown, but gamers and developers alike are watching closely as the investigation continues.
