TV Actress Gargi Maushik Patel Loses ₹45,000 in Online Scam While Selling Home Appliances

Popular television and film actress Gargi Maushik Patel has become the latest victim of a cyber fraud case, losing ₹45,000 to a scammer who posed as a buyer for her household appliances. The incident took place in Mumbai’s Worli area and is now under police investigation.

In April 2025, Patel had posted an ad on her Facebook profile to sell a used washing machine. Shortly after, she was contacted by several people, and she shared her mobile number with them for further discussions.

One of the callers, who identified himself as "Tarun", first contacted her on April 18 and showed interest in the washing machine. On April 24, he got in touch again, claiming he dealt in used electronic appliances. Patel then sent him photos of a dishwasher and an audio receiver, quoting ₹40,000 for the set.

The man asked for her bank details to make the payment. She soon received ₹35,000 in her account, and he promised to send the remaining ₹5,000. However, he quickly called her, claiming that he had mistakenly transferred ₹50,000 instead of ₹5,000 and asked her to return ₹45,000.

Trusting his story, Patel transferred the amount using her and her husband’s bank accounts. But after the payment, the man stopped responding, and the promised balance never came.

Realising she had been scammed, Patel filed a complaint at Worli Police Station. The police have registered an FIR against an unknown person under cybercrime laws and are currently investigating the case by tracking digital clues.
