US Warns of Increased Threats After Attacks on Iran

The US government has issued a warning to Americans about a higher risk of danger inside the country following recent military action against Iran.

This alert comes from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), just a day after the US and Israel carried out major attacks on three of Iran’s nuclear sites. It was one of the most serious military strikes on Iran since its 1979 revolution. In response, Iran launched dozens of missiles at Israel, injuring many people in Tel Aviv and raising concerns about a wider war in the Middle East.

According to the DHS, the ongoing conflict with Iran is increasing the risk of cyberattacks and possible violent acts inside the US. In a bulletin, the agency said:

“Low-level cyber attacks by pro-Iranian hackers are likely. Iran-linked cyber groups could also attempt more serious attacks on American networks.”

The bulletin also warns that Iran may still try to take revenge for the killing of one of its top military commanders in a 2020 US airstrike. It said that if Iran’s Supreme Leader were to issue a religious order (known as a fatwa) calling for revenge, it could inspire violent extremists in the US to carry out attacks.

“Violent acts by individuals motivated by Iran or its messages could happen, especially if Iran openly calls for attacks,” the bulletin said.

The DHS also noted that several recent terrorist incidents in the US were driven by anti-Semitic or anti-Israel beliefs. The ongoing Israel-Iran conflict may fuel similar attacks in the future.

Officials revealed that since 2020, US law enforcement has stopped several plots backed by Iran that could have been deadly. Iran has also tried—but failed—to attack critics of its government who are based in the US.

Given the current threat environment, DHS is urging Americans to stay watchful and report anything unusual to authorities through its “If You See Something, Say Something” program.

The warning highlights the serious security concerns the US now faces—not just abroad, but at home—as tensions with Iran reach a new high.
