According to officials, the fraudsters had contacted the victims by pretending to help with stock trading, UPI payments, and other financial services.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shiv Narayan highlighted the importance of quick action in such cases. He said that filing a complaint immediately increases the chances of recovering the lost money. “People should not ignore suspicious calls or messages. Report such incidents to the cybercrime helpline number 1930 or file a complaint on the national cybercrime reporting portal,” he advised.
Police officials explained that once a victim reports a cybercrime, the fraudster’s bank account is quickly frozen. After completing legal procedures, the victim’s money is refunded within a few days.
To support victims, officers have been appointed at every police station to help with the complaint process.
Authorities also warned about the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) by cybercriminals. They said that criminals are now using AI to mimic voices and trick people, especially in rural areas. Citizens are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the official cybercrime helpline or website.
The cybercrime helpline number 1930 is available for all citizens across India.
