Pune Woman Duped of ₹9.5 Lakh in Online Job Fraud

A woman from Pune’s Katraj-Kondhwa area has allegedly lost ₹9.5 lakh to cyber fraudsters who promised her high earnings through online tasks. The Bharati Vidyapeeth police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the incident.

According to officials, the woman received a message in December 2024 offering a work-from-home opportunity. The message claimed she could earn between ₹1,500 and ₹6,000 per day by promoting advertisements for a reputed hotel on social media.

After completing an initial task, she received ₹7,500 in her bank account, which led her to believe the offer was genuine. Encouraged by this, she continued performing tasks and, over the next four to five months, transferred a total of ₹9.5 lakh to the scammers.

However, the fraudsters stopped communicating with her and did not provide any further returns. Realizing she had been cheated, the woman filed a complaint with the Bharati Vidyapeeth police.

Senior Police Inspector Sawalaram Salgaonkar is supervising the case. Authorities have once again urged the public to remain cautious of online job offers and to verify their authenticity before making any financial commitments.

The investigation is ongoing.
