According to the group’s posts on social media platform X, the Indian Military Engineering Services, the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, and other defence-related websites were targeted. The group also claimed to have defaced the website of Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL), a public sector unit under the Ministry of Defence, displaying the Pakistan flag and images of the Al Khalid tank.
Officials familiar with the matter said they are aware of the claims, but the extent of the alleged breach has not been officially confirmed. Cybersecurity agencies have launched an urgent investigation.
However, the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses has denied that its website was hacked. “There has been no breach of our website,” senior management told ANI.
As a safety measure, the website of Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited has been taken offline. A detailed security audit is being carried out to assess any potential damage and ensure the website’s integrity.
Cybersecurity experts are on high alert and are monitoring cyberspace closely for further threats, especially those suspected to be state-sponsored.
Tensions Following Pahalgam Terror Attack
The cyberattack claims come at a time of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. In response, India has taken several measures, including suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan.
Second Attempt Since the Attack
This is the second reported cyber attempt since the Pahalgam attack. Earlier this week, Pakistani hacker groups “Cyber Group HOAX1337” and “National Cyber Crew” reportedly tried to breach Indian websites, including those of the Army Public School (APS) Nagrota and Sunjuwan. The attacks were unsuccessful but aimed to post inflammatory content mocking the terror attack victims.
Indian cybersecurity agencies continue to remain vigilant as they investigate the latest claims and attempt to strengthen digital defences across all sensitive platforms.
