According to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Yashasvi Yadav, these digital attacks originated from various countries, including Pakistan, the Middle East, Indonesia, and Morocco. He stated that many of the hacker groups have identified themselves as Islamist outfits, suggesting the possibility of a coordinated cyber warfare.
The cyber attacks mainly targeted Indian websites and online government portals. Maharashtra Cyber officials confirmed that several attempts were successfully blocked.
“The number of attacks sharply increased after the terror incident in Pahalgam,” said ADGP Yadav. “We have taken strong preventive measures and issued an advisory to all government departments, asking them to strengthen their cyber security systems.”
The advisory includes guidelines for improving digital infrastructure and preparedness against cyber threats.
The Pahalgam terror attack occurred on April 22 at Baisaran in South Kashmir, where terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists. The attack resulted in the death of 26 people, most of whom were tourists.
Authorities are treating the cyber attacks as a serious threat linked to the recent terror activity, and investigations are ongoing.
