Cyberattack Hits Nucor: Steelmaker Shuts Down Some Operations

U.S. steel giant Nucor has shut down parts of its operations after discovering a cyberattack on its computer systems, the company revealed on Wednesday.

The cybersecurity incident involved unauthorized access by a third party to some of Nucor’s IT systems. In response, the Charlotte-based company paused certain production activities at multiple locations to prevent further damage.

Nucor said it is now working closely with outside cybersecurity experts to investigate the breach. The company is also in the process of safely restarting the affected operations.

Federal law enforcement has been notified, and Nucor has taken some of its systems offline as a precaution. The company is also putting other safety and recovery measures in place to protect its data and operations.

At this time, Nucor has not shared details on the full extent of the cyberattack or which locations were affected.

Despite the disruption, Nucor recently reported strong financial results. Just last month, the company beat Wall Street expectations for its first-quarter earnings, thanks to increased steel shipments and rising steel prices.

The investigation into the cyberattack is still ongoing.
