Hyderabad Man Duped of Rs 1.80 Lakh in Credit Card Scam

A 48-year-old private employee from Hyderabad lost Rs 1.80 lakh in a credit card verification scam after being tricked by a fraudster posing as an SBI Credit Card executive.

According to the police, the victim received a phone call from mobile number 9937293549. The caller claimed to be from the SBI Credit Card Office and told the victim that a penalty had been imposed on his card as it had not been used for a long time. The caller offered to help waive the penalty after a short video verification.

During the video call, the victim was asked to show his credit card, including the CVV number. Although he did not share any OTP, he soon received a message that Rs 1,80,000 had been debited from his card. Shockingly, this amount was far above his credit limit of Rs 50,000.

The victim immediately filed a complaint through the national cybercrime reporting portal.

Cyber Crime officials believe that the scammers may have used screen-recording or remote access tools during the call to capture the card details and make unauthorized transactions. An investigation is currently underway.
