According to officials, the accused was suspicious of her husband's past connection with the victim, a 30-year-old woman from Delhi. The accused reportedly took the victim’s photos from her social media and used them to create a fake profile in the victim’s name.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said that the victim approached the cyber police in North Delhi after discovering the fake account. She complained that someone was pretending to be her and contacting her friends and colleagues online.
Police registered a case and began investigating. They traced the fake account to a SIM card issued in Ghazipur and found the accused’s location in Nangloi, Delhi. A police team searched the area and arrested the woman. They also recovered the phone and SIM card used in the crime.
During questioning, the woman admitted that she became suspicious when she saw an old photo her husband shared with friends in which the victim appeared. Her husband also followed the victim on social media, which raised her doubts.
To test her suspicions, she allegedly messaged the victim from her husband’s account. When the victim blocked the account, the accused created a fake profile using the victim’s photos to see if her husband would interact with it. However, police said the husband was unaware of the fake account.
Further investigation is ongoing.
