Cybercrime Alert: Rajasthan Police Warns Pilgrims About Fake Char Dham Yatra Bookings

The Cyber Branch of the Rajasthan Police Headquarters has issued a public advisory, warning devotees to book their Char Dham Yatra only through authorised agents and official websites.

According to police officials, there has been a rise in cybercrime cases related to the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. Scammers are targeting pilgrims by creating fake websites, mobile apps, and impersonating travel agents. These fraudsters are offering fake bookings for helicopter rides, hotels, taxis, and religious tour packages.

Director General of Police (Cyber Crime), Hemant Priyadarshi, said that cybercriminals are using misleading advertisements on social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram. They are also using paid ads on Google to reach unsuspecting pilgrims. The scams are especially targeting those traveling to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.

Pilgrims are advised to be cautious and avoid falling for offers that seem too good to be true. Police stressed the importance of verifying the authenticity of websites and agents before making any bookings.

Official bookings can be made:

• Online: Through the IRCTC website

• Offline: At the District Magistrate Office or Sector Magistrate

In case of suspicious activity or fraud, the public is urged to report immediately via:

• Nearest police station or Cyber police station

Earlier, on April 19, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs had also issued a warning about fake booking scams related to the Char Dham Yatra. These scams involve fake websites and deceptive social media ads that look professional but are designed to cheat pilgrims.

Authorities continue their efforts to crack down on such fraud and raise public awareness.
