CBI Busts Cybercrime Gang Targeting Japanese Citizens, Arrests 6 in Delhi-NCR and UP

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested six people linked to an international cybercrime syndicate that scammed Japanese citizens through fake tech support calls. The arrests took place after raids at 19 locations across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

The arrested individuals are Ashu Singh from Delhi; Kapil Ghakhar from Panipat, Haryana; Rohit Maurya from Ayodhya; and Shubham Jaiswal, Vivek Raj, and Adarsh Kumar from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The operation was part of the CBI’s ongoing drive against cybercrime, known as Operation Chakra-V. According to officials, the gang ran illegal call centres and posed as tech support agents from well-known companies like Microsoft. They tricked victims in Japan into believing their computers had security problems and then pressured them to send money to fake accounts to “fix” the issues.

The CBI said it registered the case based on solid intelligence that the syndicate was targeting foreign nationals, especially Japanese citizens. Victims were manipulated using clever psychological tactics and fake technical warnings.

The agency worked closely with Japan’s National Police Agency and Microsoft to track down the criminals. “This international cooperation was key to identifying the gang members and breaking up their network,” the CBI stated.

Officials added that the scam used advanced social engineering and technical tricks to fool people and steal their money.

Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests could follow.
