Hyderabad Doctor Loses Rs 8.5 Lakh in Two Separate Online Scams

A Hyderabad-based eye specialist, Dr. Mohammed Nadeemullah, has lost Rs 8.5 lakh in two online frauds – one related to a fake medical college admission and the other involving a bogus property deal. The Cyberabad Police have registered an FIR and are investigating both cases.

According to the FIR, Dr. Nadeemullah, who holds an MBBS and MD in Ophthalmology, visited the Cyber Crime Police Station on February 15 to report the scams.

The first scam happened on February 10, when he received a WhatsApp call from someone claiming to be the principal of Katihar Medical College. The caller offered an NRI MBBS seat for Dr. Nadeemullah’s daughter and asked for her ID and educational documents. Believing the offer to be genuine, the doctor transferred Rs 6.5 lakh as part of an Rs 8 lakh admission fee.

Later, he grew suspicious and contacted the real principal of Katihar Medical College, Dr. R.B. Gupta, who confirmed that admissions were closed and that the documents shared by the scammer were fake.

Realizing he had been cheated, Dr. Nadeemullah immediately contacted the Cyber Crime Helpline and froze his bank accounts to prevent further loss.

Just two days later, on February 12, Dr. Nadeemullah was targeted again. This time, a man pretending to be a Border Security Force (BSF) officer named Ashok Kumar showed interest in buying a property owned by the doctor. During their conversation, the fraudster tricked him into transferring Rs 2 lakh to two different accounts, promising to return the money within 24 hours.

When the fake buyer asked for another Rs 1 lakh the next day, the doctor became suspicious. He consulted his bank manager, who confirmed it was a scam.

Dr. Nadeemullah has filed a second complaint and urged police to take strict action against the fraudsters.

Cyberabad Police are now investigating both cases and have advised citizens to stay alert and verify details before making any payments online.
